The Alfa Romeo TZ is a masterpiece of lightweight engineering. Our Historic CDS roll cage is designed to integrate seamlessly with the TZ’s unique tubular chassis, providing essential driver protection that meets the strict standards of MSUK Appendix K without compromising the car's historic integrity or iconic Zagato-designed interior.

Built from high-quality Cold Drawn Seamless (CDS) Steel to provide excellent energy absorption and durability. CDS is the industry-standard choice for historic builds, offering a robust safety cell that is both effective and period-appropriate.

The TZ chassis is a complex network of tubes. Our cage is designed using 3D scanning technology to ensure the main hoop and stays align perfectly with the original structural points, maintaining the car’s balanced handling and "sympathetic" look.

Engineered to meet Motorsport UK technical regulations for Historic competition. All tubes CNC Mandrel bent and laser profiled for a "notch-free" fit against the TZ's tight interior.

When it comes to historic racing, the design of safety equipment like roll cages is crucial for both safety and authenticity. FIA Appendix K sets strict guidelines that allow historic cars to maintain their original appearance and geometry, while ensuring that safety standards meet the necessary requirements.

The simplicity of historic cages compared to modern ones can be attributed to the fact that materials and engineering standards were different back in the day. The emphasis was more on protecting the driver from certain types of crashes rather than achieving the multipoint designs of today’s standards.

In historic motorsport, the goal is often to balance modern safety standards while still maintaining historical accuracy. Modern cages are more robust, but they don’t necessarily replicate the way cars were originally reinforced, which can affect the authenticity of the driving experience.

Weld-in cages are still acceptable under the current rules, which is a plus for many restorers and classic drivers, as they provide a strong, period-appropriate safety solution.

A roll cage design must comply with the MSA/FIA technical regulations published in the MS UK Blue book. It is the competitor’s responsibility to ensure his/her roll cage complies with the technical regulations appropriate to the event they are competing in.

  • Footplates & gussets, laser cut and folded
  • Weld test sample included – see our Certification Video Guide for more details
  • Buildmaster included — every Roll Cage part has a unique sticker ID to help locate the correct part; this is used during checking and packing and is signed off twice
  • Important documents – declaration forms and fitting guides included
  • Unique ID plaque – do not lose this; the ID plaques are unique to each individual cage kit and must be welded to the cage during installation
  • Installed images are available on request
